Last Trip

Welcome to our web site ...

We are now in the Northern Himalaya until December 2009

The India trip... began on the 26th of January 05 and we spent 5 months travelling slowly in that wonderful country.

It was hard travelling independently on buses and trains and we needed time lots of time to book at the train stations. Backpacking allowed us the flexibility to get of the beaten track and people were kind patient and helpful. Through the bus windows we saw a lot of the countryside and daily life. To our amazement we were often made to sit on crowded buses with the phrase “Please, you are a guest in our country”. We rarely had a problem finding reasonable accommodation or someone to take us to visit the sites. At times it was hot, tiring and hectic but also fascinating and constantly surprising.

We are looking forward to returning one day. As the saying goes you either love India or hate it. We loved it.

Update 19th November: The latest news is that we are now ready to start out again after a family berevement. We will spend Christmas in the UK and set out for South America backpacking on the 27th of December. We aim to return in November 06.

A bit about us....
We dreamed of retiring early and spent 20 years travelling together on short holidays. We were fortunate enough to be able to leave work early 6 years ago so we now have the time to travel.

We have spent 3 months in the Pyrenees and 13 months in Australia driving a converted Land Rover through remote places. On our way back to Britain we backpacked for 4months in South East Asia (Sabah Cambodia Vietnam and Laos). In 2004  we backpacked for 5 months in Nepal Tibet Burma and Sarawak. In 2005 we spent over 5 months in India. Then we travelled through South America 2006 then Central America 2009 and a quick visit to the Arctic.

We are now in Northern India until December 2009
